Deadly storm hits the Bahamas
Three weeks after category 5 Hurricane Dorian devastated the islands of Abaco and Grand Bahamas, search and rescue operations are still underway.
Many people have been evacuated from the affected areas, and over 2000 people are being housed by the government in collective centres. The immediate priorities for these families are food, water and healthcare.
We have a team of 5 in the Bahamas and they are working very closely with local and international humanitarian organizations, the government, Rotary, and the private sector to gather as much information as possible and be part of a coordinated response.
This will likely be the first of many destructive storms this year. Hurricane season runs from June to November in the Atlantic with September being the peak. At ShelterBox, we must be prepared for this season and the potential that many families will need our assistance after these devastating storms.
Donate today to help families around the world recover after losing their homes to wind, rain, and flooding after destructive hurricanes.
