ShelterBox works directly with communities to understand their recovery needs. We make sure the right aid is getting to the people who need it most.
Every disaster is different, so every response is different. We work with in-country partners, local organizations, and community leaders to create customized aid packages to help families recover after disaster.
We can’t replace what was lost, but we can help families rebuild their homes, and their lives.
Recovery starts with shelter. It starts with having a private place for your family to be together. A place to call home. Shelter provides privacy, security, and a feeling of home. When families don’t have to worry about where they will sleep, they can begin the process of self-recovery.
With shelter, tools, and household items like solar lights, water filters, and cooking sets, families can rebuild their lives after disaster.
Only 1 in 5 families received shelter and non-food items in 2017. That’s a shortfall of 81%.
In the last five years, shelter provision has been consistently underfunded. By helping provide the emergency shelter and tools families need to self-recover, we’re transforming despair into hope.
