Give a Tent for Lent

We invite you and your congregation to help us provide shelter for a family in need

WHAT IS TENT FOR LENT?

Only 1 in 5 families receive the emergency shelter that they need after disaster. We invite your church and congregation to Give a Tent for Lent to help bridge that gap.

By raising $500, the equivalent cost of a ShelterBox tent, your congregation can know that you have sheltered a family affected by disaster.

Hope grows when you have a place to call home. Help spread hope by giving a tent this Lent!

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

We invite you and your congregation to help us provide shelter for a family in need.

The support we have received from Christian groups over the past twenty years has contributed to our ability to help over a million people in desperate need, to recover from disaster. We know the huge hearts in your congregation may use lent as a time to reflect on hope. This year share that hope with families who have lost everything after disaster. We want to build momentum on this passion during Lent to fund the vital shelter and essential items needed by communities to repair and rebuild their lives.

With only 1 in 5 families receiving the shelter they need after a disaster, we want to reach even more families in need of emergency shelter.

For 2020, we are inviting churches from across Canada to take part and raise $500 or more over Lent. This amount is equivalent to the cost of a ShelterBox tent and will help us to provide the space for a family to call home. So, between Wednesday, February 26 – Thursday, April 9 2020 we are asking you and your congregation to:

  • Hold Lent lunches
  • Collections
  • Coffee Mornings
  • Craft sales, bake sales and raffles
  • Inspire us with your ideas

Every dollar you raise will help us to provide tents and other aid items, such as solar lights, water filtration, blankets, pots and pans.

HOW YOUR SUPPORT MAKES A DIFFERENCE

Lent 2019 began on the 6th March; by the 14th Cyclone Idai had made landfall causing devastating floods. 125,000 people lost their homes, parents and children were separated. We worked with our partners Habitat for Humanity Malawi to provide emergency shelter for families affected. Shelter is more than the aid items distributed it is a process of recovery. Meet Stephano and Mary, their family, and community members who are now on the road to recovery.

    MORE ABOUT THE TENT

When families can’t start rebuilding their homes immediately, we supply large, sturdy tents that can withstand extreme weather conditions and temperatures.

Like us, our range of aid is adaptable. We don’t just supply one type of tent, but a variety.

From specially lined tents that can safely accommodate a stove, to medium-sized tents that fit in small spaces and ones that can last years if needed, we’ve got it covered.
