LEAVE A GIFT IN YOUR WILL

A lasting way to support families who have lost so much

Rebuild communities and lives

Leave a lasting legacy

Imagine ShelterBox aid being loaded onto a truck, being driven hundreds of miles, crossing border after border, and being taken straight to the heart of the latest disaster.

Imagine a family who lost so much, their home, their belongings, their livelihood. A family who thought they’d been totally forgotten. Imagine them receiving this aid package containing the materials they need to rebuild their lives, and recover from disaster.

Imagine that it’s your legacy that made this possible. For years and years.

Putting families first

By remembering ShelterBox Canada in your will, you’ll be helping provide the emergency shelter and vital supplies that people need to recover after disaster.

Leaving a gift in your will to ShelterBox Canada is a lasting way to make a difference. You will create a legacy that shows you share our determination to transform the lives of families all over the world.

Your support enables us to stock up on supplies to prepare for catastrophes, whatever the scale, and position aid in strategic locations across the world to ensure that we are always ready to respond.

Your gift will help ShelterBox work toward a future where no one is left without shelter after disaster.

Leave a Legacy in Your Will

Leaving a gift in your will has a number of benefits:

  • Your gift ensures ShelterBox is always prepared to help families
  • A charitable tax receipt will be issued
  • Planned gifts provide valuable tax credits on your final estate tax return
  • You can make changes at any time to your will
  • You can choose the amount and type of gift you wish to give
  • A gift in a will doesn’t have to take away from what you plan to leave for loved ones
  • You can make a gift larger than you ever thought possible, and it doesn’t cost you anything now

There are a number of options available. Your bequest to ShelterBox Canada can be one, or a combination of the following:

  • A specific dollar amount
  • A percentage of your estate
  • The residual of your estate

Gifts will be used however they are needed most. If you would like to designate a specific use for your bequest, please contact us.

Our legal name is ShelterBox Canada. If you plan to include any of the above in your will, your lawyer should draft the relevant provisions to ensure your financial goals are taken into account and your tax situation is reviewed.

If you already have a will, you do not need it to include a bequest. Ask your legal advisor about the simple process of adding a codicil to your will.

    Making a difference

Ritta and Dorica are old friends and neighbours. But when floods swept through their village in Chikwawa, Malawi, the surging waters devoured their homes, along with all their possessions.

‘When the flood came, everything we had was destroyed,’ said Ritta. ‘Our houses fell down. Everything we had was washed away.’

Yet they are both happy. They were two of the thousands of people who received ShelterBox aid after the floods. Ritta said:

‘Because of ShelterBox, we are living a good life. We are very happy.’

While they look for a way to rebuild their homes, their tents not only provide a roof over their heads, but a place to call home.
