Typhoon Mangkhut (known locally as Ompong), made landfall Saturday, September 15th at 01:40 local time in Baggao (Cagayan Province) as a Super Typhoon (comparable to a category 5 hurricane). The storm sustained on land wind speeds of 200 km/h, gusting 285 km/h, as well as storm surges of rising water 3-4 meters high.

There has been heavy rain with flooding and landslides, particularly in the west. Many areas of the country are still without power and communication networks are damaged. ShelterBox Response Teams have arrived in the Philippines and are assessing the needs of affected people. Teams are communicating with local contacts including Rotary partners, as well as with warehouse teams where we currently have aid stored and ready for 2000 people.

You can help today by providing life-saving shelter aid to families suffering from disaster and conflict.

Please note: to be as effective as possible in providing immediate help to families, we do not accept donations designated to a specific country or disaster.
