ShelterBox shortlisted for JustGiving Award

ShelterBox is down to the final three in the ‘Charity of the Year’ category of the JustGiving Awards 2011.
Online fundraising platform, JustGiving, announced the six charity finalists on 21 January. Sponsored by PayPal, the annual awards celebrate outstanding individuals and organisations who give their time, effort and money to charity through the JustGiving website.
ShelterBox received thousands of votes from the public and was one of only ten charities that made the shortlist for the ‘Charity of the Year (People’s Choice) category out of the 7,000 charities registered on the site.
James Webb, ShelterBox Fundraising Officer, said: “It’s absolutely brilliant that ShelterBox has been nominated and made it through to the final of the JustGiving Awards.
“We joined JustGiving last year and since then have raised over £394,000 through the site alone. It’s been such a positive thing to be involved with and it acts as an inspiring fundraising tool for our supporters.”
The judging panel for these, the second annual awards, includes Amanda McLean, chief executive of the Institute of Fundraising; Dame Stephanie Shirley, chair of the Philanthropy Advice Steering Group; Mike Tomlinson, chief executive of the Jane Tomlinson Appeal; Jemima Kiss, The Guardian; and Rory Cellan-Jones, BBC technology correspondent.
ShelterBox is up against Live Life then Give and The Sick Children’s Trust. The awards ceremony is being held on 10 February when the winning charity will be announced.
