2011 miles in 2011

David and Jules ready themselves for their first run of the year.
With Christmas behind us most people’s thoughts are turning to a New Year fitness regime to help shake off the excesses of the festive period, but for two brothers their fitness programs may need to outlast the New Year. David and Jules Lewis are dedicating 2011 to a mammoth fundraising challenge in aid of ShelterBox. They are marking the year 2011 by running 2011 miles.
The idea was born out of a casual conversation between the brothers, although the sheer magnitude of the challenge is now beginning to set in.
Jules Lewis said: ‘I couldn't shake the idea, so here I am, somehow signed up to an insanely difficult goal. 38.5 miles a week. Every week. I know, nuts. It's Lands End to John O'Groats and back and then some. It's at least three pairs of trainers!’
‘Most road routes from Land's End to John O'Groats run to about 1000 miles, so I've been thinking of it in those terms, and might even show my weekly progress that way. Another useful comparison, though a bit scary, is that it's almost 77 marathons!’
The brothers will be chronicling their challenge on their blog: http://2011miles.com/
